First-Time DCE Instructors: Training Requirements

Instructors teaching a DCE course for the first time must complete a short series of trainings before the term begins. Please register for and complete the required trainings described below.

  • The training completion deadline for Summer School is June 15, 2026.

New Instructor Orientation

Required

Teaching in DCE differs in important ways from what you may have experienced elsewhere. The orientation is designed to give you the tools and knowledge you need to prepare your course and successfully navigate the semester. 

Please register to attend the orientation live or to watch the recorded session if you were unable to attend.

Transparent Teaching Workshop

Required

In this live-attendance workshop, our faculty development team will work with you and other new instructors in developing teaching practices that allow all students to learn in a supportive academic environment.

Canvas Best Practices Learning Module

Required

This self-paced training covers both essentials and advanced techniques specific to DCE’s custom version of Canvas.

Leveraging Technology in Online Formats

Required for instructors of web conference courses only

In this small group workshop, our faculty development team will work with you to identify strategies for maximizing student engagement in your web conference course. You will learn how to use the custom web conference tools developed by DCE.
