#  Flexible Learning with the Immersive Classroom

DCE's new Immersive Classroom brings asynchronous students into the course community and makes it easier to give students the flexibility they need to succeed.

But we still had a problem. In some cases, asynchronous students were left as passive participants, watching their classmates interact on a course recording. In other cases, instructors cobbled together alternative activities for the async students, essentially doubling their prep for every class meeting so they could teach their separate audiences.

## The Immersive Classroom

To truly bring together synchronous and asynchronous learners into one course community, we needed a new solution that would make learning equitable across both groups. We wanted async students to have a chance to connect with their peers and participate in class activities, just like their synchronous peers could. And we wanted to do this without doubling instructor workloads.

And so we designed and built the Immersive Classroom, our new supercharged video player that harnesses smart technology to autogenerate discussion boards and polls right where they’re needed so async students can participate in class too. All instructors need to do is talk to the camera during live class and encourage async students to join in.

Students have told us that when instructors talk to them through the camera and ask them to participate in the Immersive Classroom, it makes them feel included and like they’re full participants in the course.
